For several years now the Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri has allowed people living just outside the boundary of the Western District to file their bankruptcy cases in the Western District for the sake of convenience. It is usually easier for someone living in Moberly to attend their meeting of creditors in Jefferson City instead of Hannibal, which is where the meeting would be held if the case were filed in the Eastern District. Recently, this permissive venue practice was revisited, and it appeared that it may not be allowed to continue. However, the good news is the Judges have decided to continue to allow this practice, so most people living in mid-Missouri will continue to be allowed to attend their meeting of creditors in Jefferson City.
